This workshop lets the youngest children touch, smell, mess about with and get to know lots of new fruit and vegetables.
This is a very popular workshop and the children always enjoy themselves. They get excited about all the different foods, then start tasting and trying, with no encouragement needed. They leave the workshops full of tales of what new foods they have eaten.
With lots of fun, a bit of competition and lively games, this workshop lets the children do the discovering. I bring a variety of wonderful fruit and veg, some familiar, some strange, a few exotic, but enough for everyone to try. Then everyone can find some delicious new tastes that they like. We also cover what is meant by the terms organic and Fair Trade.
This workshop begins with a professional demonstration on how to prepare fresh fruit to eat. I then set the children the task of preparing fruit for a tempting fruit salad. It's all combined in a huge colourful dish and then served to the children. It's usually gone within seconds with most children coming back for more. The important messages here are about using fruit for meals, using different fruits plus how easy they are to prepare.
Food plays a large part in many traditional celebrations across the world. This workshop explores some of these celebrations, including how we use food to celebrate events in our own lives. I present some celebration foods from different cultures for the children to try then we get creative with celebrations of our own.
This workshop would compliment lessons that are exploring different countries. I bring a selection of foods from around the world such as mirin, miso and tofu. All the children have the opportunity to taste, try and decide if they like them. I include a discussion about staple foods plus what influences the type of foods eaten in different countries.
This workshop is aimed at helping children to understand what is meant by a healthy balanced diet. Together we explore a mystery shopping bag, plus play some games that help children understand how it all works. Lots of fun around a subject they really need to understand.
This workshop came about as request from schools who want to send home the healthy eating message. I have developed a fun, informative workshop that gives parents practical ideas for lunch boxes, healthy snacks, and healthy eating. No heavy lectures, no 'good or bad' foods but common sense with time to taste some appetising munchies.
I will be please to discuss your requirements so I can develop a tailored workshop for your school.
